Oh.My.Goodness…….this heat is killing me! We don’t have central AC in our house and only have one unit in our bedroom…not cutting it! I’m seriously sweating just sitting here (desktop=not in the bedroom). My alarm went off at 5:30 again…and I reset it for 7:30! 🙂 I was just too tired! Looks like it’ll be a rest day today…ice cream may be involved…

I was able to convince the husband to do a little shopping for the house this past weekend and I thought I’d share our finds…nothing big but just a few decor items from Home Goods…

A runner for our dining room table (I bought matching napkins too). I love the colors!! The vase is from TJ Maxx and was used at our wedding.

A magazine basket for the living room…the handles are broken so it was only $7! I love the rustic feel it gives the room…and I’m not planning on carrying my magazines around so the handles won’t be missed!

And this awesome picture/shadow box thing…I’m a sucker for rosettes!! I’m still not sure where this will got yet…possibly our bathroom upstairs. It was on sale for $12.

We also picked up some floating shelf boxes but I’ll have to photograph them once they are up.

I’m not sure if I’ve mentioned that we bought a fixer-upper and completely remodeled the whole place ourselves (well, the husband did while I supervised:))…Basically the only thing we left untouched was the foundation. I may start to incorporate some of our remodeling into the blog…

My alarm went off at 5:45 this morning…and I actually got up! That seems to be the hardest part for me.  I had half an english muffin with Justin’s Maple Almond Butter and some iced tea (I need caffeine before I workout or I get a major headache that lasts all day!).

This almond butter is amazing!! I could eat it by the spoonful…and possibly have! 😀 I love that it isn’t super sweet like peanut butter and has a slightly grainy texture. And the maple flavor is very subtle but still present.

It’s a little pricey at $10/jar but definitely worth it! They even sell individual packets ($1/each) for on-th-go! Genius!

At the gym I warmed up with 12 minutes on the elliptical. I worked out my arms and abs and finished off with 2 miles on the treadmill (10:00 pace). I’m going to start running again but will work my way into it slowly. Feels great to have my workout done for the day!

This was my first time making anything of the sort and my was it worth it! So easy and so tasty! I forgot about mine in the oven so they were a little too crunchy but still delicious. We ate ours on a caesar salad (and I ate the leftovers out of the bag :)). Whip these up next time you have some leftover bread!

Homemade Croutons

Recipe from Annie’s Eats

Ingredients

  • 6 slices of bread (I used french)
  • 3 Tbsp olive oil or butter, melted (I used butter)
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp dried parsley
  • Kosher salt

Preheat the oven to 300 degrees. Cut the bread into 3/4 inch cubes and place in a medium bowl. Combine the olive oil or butter, garlic, and dried parsley in a small bowl and blend well. Pour the mixture over the bread and toss gently to coat.

Transfer the bread cubes to a baking sheet, spreading them out into an even layer. Sprinkle with Kosher salt. Bake for 15 minutes or until golden brown, toss halfway through (may require up to 15 minutes more). Remove from the oven and left cool. Store in an airtight container.

And that would be Sisters Salsa! I just had to share! 🙂

It really is very fresh and so good! I’ve been snacking on this a lot! Possibly too much…I could probably eat the whole container in one sitting, no joke!

The ingredients list makes it even better! All real food! Buy some now (and I’m not being paid to say that)!

I’m taking tonight off from the gym since I went last night. I did the usual workout: elliptical, strength (arms and abs), and the bike. I’m kind of getting a little nervous that I’m working my arms too much! I just want to tone them but I feel like I might bulk up! Help!! Definitely need to change it up a bit…perhaps I will be adding lower body weights into the mix and cut back on the amount of arm workouts I’ve been doing.

Dramatic much? 🙂 I’ve been finding it to be quite difficult to get to the gym between Tuesday and Friday. I try to go 3 days a week and usually make it there on Saturday and Monday. I just can’t seem to get my butt in gear after work to get my third day in!! I am really not a morning person so evening workouts are really my thing…I may have to try morning workouts if this continues!

I’ve been feeling really guilty about this and it’s stressing me out! I need to realize a few things:

  • Missing a workout or two is not going to undermine my whole workout regime
  • Sometimes I just don’t have the energy and in that case, maybe my body is telling me that I need to rest
  • I can’t go back and change it so I just need to move on…tomorrow is Saturday and I will make it to the gym!

Over the past couple of years I have exercised sporadically. I would get on a schedule of working out, running, etc. but it would only last a couple of weeks (if that). I am slowly changing my lifestyle so that exercise is a part of it, not just some fad. I am really proud of myself for sticking with running and now joining the gym. By mixing things up I have started to enjoy it instead of dreading it! I think that variation and flexibility are key.

I am actually enjoying being able to mix things up. I still love running but training for my half marathon kind of burnt me out. I wasn’t really enjoying it anymore. Part of it may have been the fact that I injured myself during my first training attempt last fall so the training seemed never-ending (I was signed up to run a half in November 2009 but had to back out due to a stress injury in my tibia). I hope that I always love running so taking a break from it when it starts to feel like a chore makes sense to me. There is another half in September that I may sign up for so I should be running again soon.

I love strength training so far and will try to keep this up too, even if I start training for another race. I really want to get into yoga and I tried a little bit last night for the first time! They have a bunch of free videos On Demand, even a couple for beginners! It’ll take me a while to get the moves down but it was fun to learn! I’ll definitely be taking advantage of these freebies before heading to a class.
