Hi guys! Hope you enjoyed your long weekend!!
We had great weather and really enjoyed our time camping in Cape Cod.
My dad, sister and I ran along the Cape Cod Canal on Sunday morning…it was pretty hot but we logged 5 miles.
Many iced coffees were consumed…
As well as some seafood,
ice cream, and homemade marshmallows!
It was great to just sit and relax, and spend time with Reid, friends, and family!
Yesterday was spent at my parent’s house, lounging by the pool, and then finished off with a campfire with friends.
It was quite the weekend! Time to get back to reality…and my sunburn. Ouch!
Hi guys! Happy weekend!
We are heading down to Cape Cod today to do a little camping with my family. I can’t wait to run by the canal! I’m hoping to get at least a few miles in this weekend. I’m sure we will do lots of biking and walking too, as well as plenty of eating and sitting (by a campfire, hopefully).
This morning has been spent cleaning and packing. Nothing sounded appealing for breakfast so I poured a bowl of cereal and called it good. Fat free milk was added post picture.
The other day I had printed out a recipe for homemade marshmallows and decided to make some for roasting and s’mores. I randomly had some leftover unflavored gelatin from something so it worked out great.
They were really easy to make, though a little difficult to work with. The mixture is obviously very sticky (think fluff, but worse) so it took a little bit to get it out of the mixing bowl. There was still plenty left behind but I didn’t feel like fighting it at 9:30 in the morning.
Waiting to be cut…
Sliced and packaged! Can’t wait to try them out! I’ll share the recipe next week.
Time to shower and hit the road! See you on Monday! Enjoy your weekend!
Hi guys! Hope you had a good Thursday! I had to work today but got out a little early. It was the first hot day this year and I was excited to get outside and enjoy the sunshine.
I wasn’t feeling very hungry for lunch (my oatmeal this morning was very filling) so I whipped together a quick smoothie.
In the blender:
- 1 cup fat-free milk
- half of a frozen banana
- a handful of frozen strawberries
- a handful of spinach
- a scoop of protein powder
I took it outside to slurp while soaking up some rays. I sat in the sun and read Carrots ‘N’ Cake (the book) for almost two hours. It was glorious!
I actually finished the book and really enjoyed it! I can’t wait to try some of Tina’s recipes.
After reading, I came in to get some laundry done and snacked on some chips and salsa. Still the best salsa ever.
It was pretty warm in the house so I didn’t really feel like making anything extensive for dinner. Breakfast always works! We had veggie omelets with a shared bowl of grapes and strawberries. My omelet contained two eggs, feta, green and red peppers, mushrooms, and broccoli.
Tasty and perfectly easy for a hot summer night. Yes, it’s summer in my eyes.
We don’t have central AC so Reid is installing a unit in our bedroom…it’s about 80 degrees in there right now! I feel like I need a cool shower before heading to bed.
I can’t wait for this week to be over! We are planning on heading to Cape Cod for the holiday weekend to join my family for some camping adventures! Should be fun!
Any fun plans for the weekend/Memorial Day?
Hi friends! Hope you’re having a good week so far!
Mine has been a little busy and unfortunately, blogging isn’t my top priority. I’m finding it a little hard to fit everything in lately and am trying to get back on track with my workouts, which have been lacking. I think the main thing for me would be to get back into early a.m. workouts but it’s been hard.
I’m also struggling with maintaining my blood sugar levels. I don’t talk about it much on here but I’m a Type 1 Diabetic. For some reason my blood glucose levels have been dropping really low quite frequently and it is not fun! I get really shaky and my energy levels drop until I can raise my sugar levels (by eating or drinking some carbohydrates). It seems to be happening in the afternoon, which is when I would be working out lately. I even had to leave the gym early yesterday because of low blood sugar levels.
When I experience a “low” it’s really hard to make healthy choices. I want to just grab the first thing I see so I’m really making an effort to eat some fruit or something healthy, and then sit and wait for it to bring my levels back up…rather than shoveling junk food into my mouth until I feel better. I really just need to figure out why I’m having these low spells, though. But that takes time that I don’t have.
Enough of that, let’s move on to greener pastures. Or purple lilac bushes anyway.
I love the smell of lilacs and can’t wait until these open! It’s one of my favorite things about spring.
I changed into my running clothes after work but I was too shaky to go anywhere. So I ate a banana instead and started on dinner. A few handfuls of grapes and some chips were also consumed. I’m working on it.
Once I was done putting dinner together I felt a little better. Reid was running a little late so I laced up my running shoes and headed out for a quick 2.25 mile loop. It was pretty warm but it felt great to move my legs. I still need new shoes, though. I didn’t use my Garmin so I’m not sure of my time. I just enjoyed the smell of lilacs and the fact that I’m even able to run…diabetes is nothing compared to other things people go through!
Random weird lighting on my face…I was too sweaty to take any more!
For dinner I used this recipe for Orange Roasted Chicken from Recipeaholic and it was delicious! Super easy to make and very moist. I think I would add some red pepper flakes if I make it again, just for a little kick. I think I say that about a lot of recipes!
Served with steamed broccoli and rice pilaf (from a box).
I’ll most likely have one of these Yasso frozen greek yogurt bars for dessert…I picked them up last week and they are awesome! And only 70 calories each! Perfection in a box.
American Idol finale tonight!
Scotty or Lauren?
I haven’t been following it closely this year but I’m going to go with Lauren!
Hi guys! Hope you’re having a relaxing weekend!
As promised, I have a little Fashion Fix post for you…though this one is a little different.
It all starts (and ends) with a little green blazer. My sisters and I were out shopping a while ago and stopped into a thrift store. We’ve had some luck finding designer jeans and such at this one in the past so we were hoping for some goodies. I didn’t find any jeans on that trip but did happen upon this Saks Fifth Avenue blazer for $7.99. They all laughed when I said I was getting it.
I almost put it back but figured for that price I had to get it.
So, I decided to put a post together styling the blazer in three different ways…for you, and for my sisters. I love the color (Kelly green maybe?), it fits pretty well (could be taken in a bit on the torso), and the shoulders are fabulous. It looks a little too boxy when buttoned so it would need to be taken in a bit before wearing it that way. It could use a good dry cleaning though, as it smells a little, uh, musty.

Well, I hope I didn’t bore you to death! I would mix and match the tops and bottoms too, since they’re all pretty basic. I like them all but the first one is my favorite (I’m wearing it today). I think a chunky gold watch would complete the look, even though it would only peek out. I need one.
And sorry about the boring background…I don’t have a tripod and this is really the only place that I can prop my camera up at the right height.
Do you shop at thrift/consignment stores? Any fantastic finds recently?
